Michelle Obama :Who I’m celebrating this International Women’s Day

Hi there,

Happy International Women’s Day!

Today, I’m celebrating remarkable grassroots leaders from the Girls Opportunity Alliance who are working tirelessly to create a brighter future for girls around the world. I want to introduce you to five of these leaders: Jackie, Karla, Myriam, Sanam, and Tameka.

From villages in Nepal to my hometown of Chicago, these trailblazers are a shining example to us all. They’re providing life-changing scholarships to girls pursuing their education. They’re helping prevent child marriage in their communities. They’re teaching girls about the importance of their mental and physical health. And they’re mentoring girls along the way–showing them that they aren’t alone and that their rights and their dreams matter just as much as the rights and dreams of boys and men.

On the left, the words "Learn more about these leaders and their work." on the right, headshots of five women with a variety of skintones and hair types are interspersed with geometric shapes.

These changemakers are helping girls everywhere reimagine their futures–and I hope you’ll learn more about them and then join us in supporting their efforts through the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund. Today, we’re adding four new organizations to the Fund to support girls’ education and empowerment around the world. They deserve our support, not just on International Women’s Day, but all year long.

—Michelle
