I first met a young Michelle Robinson in 1991 when she interviewed with me for a job in the Mayor’s office in Chicago. That day changed my life forever.
Michelle shared her story with me—about her life growing up on the South Side, raised by her two loving and supportive parents who believed in commitment to both family and service. Michelle wanted to explore other options to practicing corporate law, in the hopes of using her skills to give back to her community. I was so impressed by her, I offered her a job on the spot! I, of course, had no idea she would be our future First Lady!
Now, over three decades later, I am delighted to help Barack and Michelle Obama build on their White House legacy through the Obama Foundation. Michelle’s impact will be visible throughout the Obama Presidential Center in spaces such as the Eleanor Roosevelt Fruit & Vegetable Garden, the museum exhibits that tell the story of her and her husband, and the incredible art on display created by a richly diverse selection of artists. In addition,
Mrs. Obama’s legacy is reflected in the countless changemakers she inspired by being such an extraordinary role model.I am confident that as a part of this network, you are one of those people who are doing what they can to make your world a little better. Could you
share your story in honor of Michelle’s birthday or make a donation so we can continue to support the next generation of changemakers at the Obama Foundation?
Thank you for helping me celebrate one of the most important people in my life!
Warmly,
Valerie
