The EESC will hold a hybrid hearing in Brussels on 5 February 2024 from 10.00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the "Defence of Democracy Package". The European Commission announced the Defence of Democracy Package as a way to promote free and fair elections, to fight disinformation, and to develop civic space and citizen participation. The initiative has raised much interest but also concerns amongst civil society actors fearing that aspects addressing interference from non-EU countries could affect civic space. Participating stakeholders are invited to discuss the content of the package to feed into the related EESC opinion. Your participation and input are most welcome! The draft agenda and the registration form are available on the EESC web site.  Please feel free to forward the invitation to anybody that may be interested. Le CESE organise une audition hybride à Bruxelles le 5 février 2024, de 10h00 à 13h00, sur le «Train de mesures «Défense de la démocratie»». La Commission européenne a annoncé le train de mesures "Défense de la démocratie" comme un moyen de promouvoir des élections libres et équitables, de lutter contre la désinformation et de développer l'espace civique et la participation des citoyens. L'initiative a suscité beaucoup d'intérêt mais aussi des inquiétudes parmi les acteurs de la société civile craignant que les aspects relatifs à l'ingérence des pays non membres de l'UE n'affectent l'espace civique. Les parties prenantes participantes sont invitées à discuter du contenu du train de mesures pour alimenter l'avis du CESE sur le sujet.
