Highlights

  • EU butter prices: 546€/100 kg, +4.1% in the last 4 weeks;

  • EU SMP prices: 262€/100 kg, -0.1% in the last 4 weeks;

  • EU WMP prices: 369€/100 kg, +1.3% in the last 4 weeks;

  • EU cheddar prices: 347€/100kg, +0.1% in the last 4 weeks;

  • Decrease of energy and feed costs (-2.4%) and (-2.3%) respectively; in week 49 compared to the previous 4 weeks;

  • IT spot milk prices went down, now at 55,3c/kg (10.12.2023);

  • Oceania is more price competitive on butter and WMP, while US prices are more competitive on cheddar and SMP;

  • In Oct 2023, AU milk production went up by +2.0% while NZ, US and UK milk production went down by -0.3%, -0.5% and -2.6% respectively;

  • In Jan-Sep 2023 the EU butter exports decreased to the UK by (-20%) while increased to China by (+21%) and to the USA (+6%);

  • During the same period, EU cheese exports to Japan were down (-14%) and to the USA (-5%);

  • In Jan-Sep 2023, EU SMP exports up to Algeria (+54%) and down to Indonesia (-42%). EU WMP exports to Oman were down (-15%), China (-34%) and up to the UK (+29%);

  • In Jan-Sep 2023, NZ exports were up: butter (oil) (+6%), cheese (+13%) and SMP (+35%), except for WMP (-1%);

  • US dairy exports were down in Jan-Sep 2023: butter(oil) (-49%), cheese (-5%), SMP (-2%) and WMP (-33%);

  • Chinese imports of cheese (+18%), SMP (+9%), wheypowder (+14%), caseines (+13%) and lactose (+36%) were up in Jan-Sep 2023 while imports of butter(oil) (-8%), WMP (-38%) and condensed (-34%) were down.
