At this year’s UN General Assembly, USAID Administrator Samantha Power announced more than $255 million to deliver essential services to citizens in countries experiencing democratic openings. This funding, including from foundations and the private sector, aims to galvanize partnerships and advance democracy. USAID also announced a new fund to spur investment in agriculture in Africa, with the goal of reaching $200 million and supporting 1.5 million farmers. There was also news about our fight against corruptionefforts to reduce food waste, and support to countries transitioning to green energy. In the words of President Biden: “We’re working to show how democracy can deliver in ways that matter to people’s lives.”

Administrator Power traveled to Armenia and Azerbaijan, and activated a Disaster Assistance Response Team to address the crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Agency also sent aid to earthquake victims in Morocco and flood survivors in Libya, and is providing additional assistance in Sudan and Ukraine.
