On 16 October 2023, the European Economic and Social Committee is hosting a public hearing in conjunction with its own-initiative opinion on Corruption in public procurement and its impact on the internal market.
The purpose of the hearing will be to contribute to the EESC opinion with a deeper analysis of the issue of corruption in public procurement and its impacts, bringing attention to how challenges to the rule of law affect the internal market. The event will address issues such as corruption in public procurement not involving EU funding; digitalization of the public procurement market as a way to improve transparency; and sustainability as an over-arching objective. It will also explore the need to regulate lobbying at both national and EU level and to reinstate the anti-corruption reports and it will take on board the role of civil society organisations in combating corruption.
