Belarus: EU adopts new round of individual sanctions over continued human rights abuses and imposes further targeted measures in response to involvement in Russia's military aggression against Ukraine

 

The Council today imposed sanctions on an additional 38 individuals and 3 entities. It also extended export bans to firearms, aviation and space industry.

"We have adopted new sanctions in reaction to the Lukashenko’s illegitimate regime continued systematic, widespread and gross human rights violations and brutal repression against all segments of the Belarusian society. Today we are also taking further measures against the Belarusian regime as an accomplice in Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine. We stand by the Belarusian people in their quest for peace and democracy."

Readers of Europe 2023 - Portuguese recommendation

 

Over the course of the summer, the Council Library, in collaboration with the permanent representations to the EU, will recommend books to read from across the EU. It’s the fourth instalment of our Readers of Europe initiative, and this year, the spotlight will be placed on female authors. Today’s recommendation is from the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the EU: ‘Luanda, Lisboa, Paraíso’ by Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida.
