Hi there,

Right now, LGBTQ+ rights are under attack from state legislators to the Supreme Court. That’s why it’s more important now than ever to recognize Pride Month and lift up this vibrant community. We’ve shared some incredible stories this month and want to make sure you didn’t miss a single one.

From an Obama Leader in Uganda who is fighting to make his country more inclusive, to a Pride celebration back home in Chicago, take a look at how our network celebrates the LGBTQ+ community every June, and throughout the year.

Obama Leader Profile: Tom Twongyeirwe Junior

On Obama.org, we shared Tom Twongyeirwe Junior’s story. Tom, a 2023 Obama Leader, is one of four founding members and the national coordinator of the Universal Coalition of Affirming Africans Uganda (UCAA-UG).

His organization is the first national coalition of Ugandan religious leaders dedicated to using a faith-based approach to advance the inclusion of oppressed groups, including LGBTQ+ people. The UCAA-UG is more necessary than ever, as Uganda recently passed an incredibly restrictive law criminalizing homosexual relationships.

Learn more about his story and how the Obama Leaders program has helped him further his work by reading the full profile now.
