 | Short-term outlook for EU agricultural markets – summer 2023Dear Madam, dear Sir, The Directorate-General of Agriculture and Rural Development has published the summer 2023 edition of the short-term EU agricultural outlook. This edition of the report presents the latest changes in overall market fundamentals and their impacts on main EU agricultural markets. It also includes updated balance sheets for all of them. Presented prospects take into account the latest available information on the weather developments until mid-June, availability and prices of inputs (e.g. energy, fertilisers, feed), producer prices, consumer price developments, such as food inflation. Growth rates for some items have slowed down, and have declined or stabilised for others. Sector specific highlightsIn this edition, markets’ insights are presented by arable and specialised crops, and animal products. In addition, the market fundamentals section describes the overall changes in EU agricultural markets. From this edition onwards, all EU balance sheets are available in the Agri-food data portal only, in the form of both tables and graphs. The latest markets that have been added are Wine, Biofuels and Protein crops. Detailed Member State data can be found on the JRC portal, under EU estimated agricultural balance sheets. - EU butter prices: 466 €/100 kg, -0.8% in last 4 weeks;
- EU SMP prices: 240 €/100 kg, -3.8% in last 4 weeks;
- EU WMP prices: 356 €/100 kg, +0.2% in last 4 weeks;
- EU cheddar prices: 357 €/100 kg, -0.4% in last 4 weeks;
- IT spot milk price decreased to 51.8 c/kg (9/07/2023);
- Decrease of costs for feed (-0.6%) and energy (-0.9%) in week 27 compared to the previous 4 weeks;
- EU remains more price competitive on butter, US on SMP and cheddar, Oceania on WMP.
