AHEPA Day Celebrated. Share Your Story With Us!

AHEPA Sunday is always observed on the third Sunday of May in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

This year, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America proclaimed May 21, as "AHEPA Sunday," and for that, we are sincerely appreciative.

AHEPA Sunday is an opportunity to raise awareness about AHEPA's storied history, our worthy mission, and the vital programs we provide that help to strengthen our communities and society at-large.

How did your chapter commemorate AHEPA Sunday?

For example, Ahepans of James Whitcomb Riley Chapter 232, Indianapolis (top right), held a memorial service for departed brothers and presented three scholastic medals for academic excellence to students of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Greek School.

Ahepans of Washington Heights, N.Y., also held a memorial service.

While Ahepans of Chester-Delco Chapter 79, Media, Pa., (bottom right) presented seven scholarship awards, totaling $14,000, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. The parish also held an Artoklasia for the Ahepans.

Share with us your AHEPA Sunday success story! We want to know! Send us your stories and pictures at ahepasocial@gmail.com to be featured in next week's e-news!

AHEPA Partners with IOCC to Rebuild Houses

AHEPA and the IOCC have a longstanding history of partnering together for humanitarian causes, most notably, shipping medical supplies to Greece valued at millions of dollars. AHEPA has partnered with the IOCC again to help rebuild communities across America that have sustained damage from natural disasters. Supreme President Jimmy Kokotas asks that every chapter try to coordinate with the IOCC to assist in this rewarding community service program.

May is Older Americans Month!

May is Older Americans Month! This year's theme is "Aging Unbound." Did You know? There are AHEPA and Daughters of Penelope chapters that are nonprofit sponsors of safe and dignified affordable housing for very low-income seniors administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly program.

In fact, since 1980, AHEPA Senior Living has developed over 90 affordable independent senior living communities in 21 states. Today, AHEPA Senior Living manages 87 HUD Section 202 communities in 19 states, serving more than 5,000 older adults by providing quality aging services. In March 2022, HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge toured AHEPA 29 Senior Apartments Houston campus in a historic first for AHEPA's housing program.

Through its subsidiary, ASL also owns and manages four affordable assisted living communities, called Hellenic Senior Living, with 532 units in Indiana.

Help Us Grow the Congressional Hellenic Caucus!

The 118th Congress is well underway. AHEPA congratulates the newly established leadership of the bipartisan Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues: U.S. Reps. Gus M. Bilirakis (R-FL) and Chris Pappas (D-NH), who are serving as co-chairs. We are also excited to see the Caucus establish vice chair positions and congratulate U.S. Reps. Dina Titus (D-NV) and Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), who serve in that role. We look forward to working with the Caucus’s leadership, and the entire Caucus body, to help it meet its goals and objectives for the 118th Congress.

The AHEPA family can assist the Hellenic Caucus by helping it to grow. Membership stands at 91 U.S. representatives.
