Happy Earth Week!

This week and every week it’s so important to protect and preserve our environment. And at the Obama Foundation, we know that everyday people acting collectively can have a lasting  impact on the world around them.

That’s why we’re spotlighting some of our favorite ways to make our lives a little more eco-friendly. From making small changes in our daily routine to installing solar panels in your home, we can all do our part to protect the one planet we’ve got.

An infographic consisting of six actions you can take now which consist of the following: Here are a few actions you can take now: Reduce your CO2 emissions by at least 90% by cycling instead of driving! Carpooling and public transit are also great alternatives. The fashion industry contributes to 10% of humankind’s carbon emissions, so instead of buying something new, shop at local thrift shops, resell your clothes online, or make DIY clothing. 12% of landfill solid waste is paper. You can easily reduce your reliance on paper goods by switching to paperless billing and using reusable cloth napkins. Installing a solar panel system in your home
cuts up to four tons of carbon emissions annually. If you’re in the United States, you can apply for the Solar Investment Tax Credit at energy.gov. Composting can cut up to 75% of an average home’s energy use per year. You can do your part by starting a compost pile or finding a compost station near you. Elected officials have a major impact on how communities across the country help fuel climate solutions—so make sure your voice is heard and counted at the ballot box.

There are so many ways to make small changes in your day-to-day life that will have an impact on our planet, these ideas are just a start.
