Supreme President attends Catsimatidis Book Signing

Supreme President Jimmy Kokotas attended a book signing event held for billionaire entrepreneur John Catsimatidis, who authored a new book, How Far Do You Want To Go, Lessons from a Common Sense Billionaire, on April 6, 2023.


Catsimatidis, owner and CEO of the Red Apple Group, reveals how his instincts and common sense have propelled him to massive business success in this detailed account of an incredible rags-to-riches story.


The event was held in the Chiotes Hall of the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City. Many representatives of prominent Greek and Greek American organizations attended.

Canadian AHEPA Leaders meet with Parliament

AHEPA Canada President Emmanuel Constas of Toronto was honored to be present on Parliament Hill for a private meeting between AHEPA leaders and the Official Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre, Senator Leo Housakos, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Melissa Lantsman, and Member of Parliament Anna Roberts, March 22, 2023. District 23 Governor James Hutchison, District 23 Treasurer Nick Pantieras, Toronto Chapter Vice President Ted Papadatos, Ottawa Chapter President Bill Sioulas, and Toronto Brother Kirk Entwisle.


AHEPA sincerely thanks Senator Housakos and Member of Parliament Anna Roberts for arranging the meeting. The discussions were productive and informative. The Ahepans appreciated the opportunity to meet with their elected officials to discuss issues affecting Canadians of Hellenic descent.

Mavroyannis Scholarship Application Opens

AHEPA Educational Foundation Chairman George Vorkas, on behalf of Supreme President Kokotas, is pleased to announce its continued partnership with the Mavroyannis Family to offer the Constantine and Patricia Mavroyannis Scholarship.


The Constantine and Patricia Mavroyannis Scholarship is open to graduate students who are either Greek or of Greek heritage and are enrolled in a PhD program in either theoretical physics or physical chemistry in the Faculty of Science at a North American university. The scholarship is in the amount of $5,000 and will be awarded in the fall semester.


Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Constantine and Mrs. Patricia Mavroyannis, this scholarship recognizes scholastic achievement and an interest and commitment to studying theoretical physics or physical chemistry by providing financial assistance to Hellenic graduate students to pursue their studies in these fields.

It's a New Congress! Help Grow the Hellenic Caucus

The 118th Congress is underway. AHEPA congratulates the newly established leadership of the bipartisan Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues: U.S. Reps. Gus M. Bilirakis (R-FL) and Chris Pappas (D-NH), who are serving as co-chairs. We are also excited to see the Caucus establish vice chair positions and congratulate U.S. Reps. Dina Titus (D-NV) and Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), who serve in that role. We look forward to working with the Caucus’s leadership, and the entire Caucus body, to help it meet its goals and objectives for the 118th Congress.

 

The AHEPA family can assist the Hellenic Caucus by helping it to grow. Membership stands at 89 U.S. representatives.

Dendias: Greece should be optimistic but also careful about relations with Turkey

Greece “should be optimistic but also careful and not naive” as regards Greek-Turkish relations, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias has said. “It would be wrong for Greece not to reach out a hand corresponding to that which Turkey is extending,” Dendias said in an interview with private broadcaster SKAI television, underlining that the “chances of success are few but it is our national duty to attempt it.” read more


Giannis Antetokounmpo Featured in Business Insider for Smart Banking Moves

NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo was featured in Business Insider (BI) for his smart moves in banking when he learned the FDIC insures deposits only up to $250,000. “When Giannis Antetokounmpo first moved to the U.S. at 18 and learned of the coverage limit, he opened accounts at half a dozen banks to protect his wealth,” BI reported, adding that the Milwaukee Buck “explained how his upbringing shaped his thinking about money during several media appearances this week.” read more

Greece buys Rafael’s anti-tank Spike missiles from Israel

Defense News (April 10)

Greece is buying anti-tank missiles from Israel in a €370 million (U.S. $403 million) deal, the weapon’s manufacturer announced Monday. The signatories to the government-to-government agreement for the Spike missiles were Eyal Zamir, director general of Israel’s Defense Ministry, and Aristeidis Alexopulos, head of Greece’s General Directorate for Defense Investments and Armaments, according to Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, which makes the weapon. read more


Greece to send more arms to Ukraine, but sets limits

Greece has pledged military assistance to Ukraine for “as long as it takes” but officials cautioned that the country needs to keep much of its Russian-made weaponry for its own defensive needs. read more
