DG Okonjo-Iweala welcomes Colombia’s Vice President Francia Márquez to the WTO
Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala welcomed Vice President Francia Elena Márquez Mina of Colombia to the WTO on 6 December. They discussed outcomes achieved at the WTO’s 12th Ministerial Conference, in particular the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, and how it relates to artisanal fishing. They also looked at how trade can be a tool for inclusion, particularly for women, small businesses and other communities that have been excluded from the benefits of trade. In addition, they committed to work together on the role of trade in addressing climate change and on supporting sustainable development.

DG Okonjo-Iweala bids farewell to 2022 trainees and young professionals
A closing ceremony took place on 5 December to mark the end of three 2022 internship programmes and the Young Professionals Programme for cohorts from developing and least-developed countries (LDCs). A total of 36 government officials and 12 young professionals around the world took part in the four programmes, which are aimed at enhancing trade expertise and the work of the WTO.
