Journalism events and resources

Hi there,

This time, we begin by remembering our former director Wilfried Rütten who passed away on Saturday, 30 July, with these words from Ove Joanson, board member and former chairman of the European Journalism Centre.

“Wilfried Rütten was a big man, large in presence, laughter and friendship. Some might have missed that behind his gregarious surface resided a deeply intellectual mind, an avid reader, a connoisseur of music and the arts. At the same time, Wilfried Rütten was a thoroughly modern person, always the first to detect new intellectual and technological trends and ideas.

He enthusiastically combined his "Bildung" and his sense of the future in order to improve the quality of journalism. He was the perfect choice when, in 2005, the Board of the European Journalism Centre selected him to become the director of the centre, a position that he held until 2016. His positive influence on the EJC, and thus on journalism in our continent, cannot be exaggerated.

The unexpected news of Wilfried's death at the age of 70 brings deep sadness to the staff and the Board of our centre and - indeed - to all who care about the standards and relevance of journalism in these troubled times.”

Outdated plugins and error pages can riddle data journalism years after a journalist publishes it. This is the case for interactive data visualisations and other dynamic content. So what steps can the industry take to ensure proper archiving of such content? In the most recent piece published on DataJournalism.com, professor Bahareh Heravi investigates the plethora of solutions for archiving your data journalism work.
