Exports of intermediate goods see continued growth in fourth quarter of 2021
World exports of intermediate goods (IGs) continued to grow in the fourth quarter of 2021, increasing by 21 per cent year on year, according to a WTO report released on 25 May.

Online training on WTO activities concludes for officials from least-developed countries
A total of 40 participants from 17 of the world’s poorest countries completed, on 25 May, a five-week introductory training course online covering the work of the WTO and the multilateral trading system.

DDG Paugam: WTO is actively participating in efforts to preserve global food security
Keeping trade open, monitoring governments’ trade measures and reducing market distortions are the three lines of action the WTO and its members are pursuing to address a looming global food crisis, Deputy Director-General Jean-Marie Paugam said at a virtual session of the Paris Peace Forum on 24 May. He stressed that the WTO is working closely with other international organizations and with the private sector to address food security concerns. The full text of his remarks is below.

Goods barometer remains flat as Ukraine conflict, COVID-19 weigh on trade

The conflict in Ukraine and recent pandemic-related lockdowns in China appear to be dampening global goods trade in the first half of 2022, according to the latest WTO Goods Trade Barometer. The current reading of 99.0 remains slightly below the baseline value of 100 for the index, which is a forward-looking composite of real-time indicators, suggesting continued slow growth in merchandise trade.
