When you make the decision to donate to charity, you expect the money to go where you intend it to. Before you click the "donate" button, be sure to follow these tips from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC):
Do your research. Use search engine sites to search for the charity name and phrases like "scams", "fraud" or "review." If you find negative reviews, consider donating elsewhere.
Look for donation fees. Will the platform keep part of your donation before sending the rest to charity?
Keep your information safe. Check to see what information will be shared with the charity or anyone else.
Donate with credit cards or checks. If someone asks you to donate with cryptocurrency, gift cards or wire transfers, it is likely a scam.
