The sixth European Union (EU) and African Union (AU) summit of heads of state and government takes place in Brussels on 17 and 18 February 2022.

On account of this, the Council Library has compiled a guide of authoritative resources on EU-AU relations.

The Library Guide serves as an overview of available resources for anyone looking to broaden their understanding of EU-AU relations.  It is by no means exhaustive. In it you’ll find a selection of books and articles, databases and websites, podcasts, videos and EU publications.

European Union - African Union summit, 17-18 February 2022

With the shadow of COVID-19 still looming, this year’s summit provides a timely opportunity to review the progress being made in implementing previous commitments. It can also serve as a springboard for a renewed and deeper EU – AU partnership.

The aim of the summit is to launch an ambitious Africa-Europe Investment Package, taking into account global challenges such as climate change and the current health crisis.  A joint declaration on a joint vision for 2030 is expected to be adopted by the participants.
