Secretary Walsh discussed pandemic recovery and veteran hiring with Virginia business

Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh visited Vantage Point Consulting, a small business in Virginia that received a HIRE Vets Medallion award for leadership in recruiting, hiring and retaining veterans. While there, they discussed how the American Rescue Plan is helping the company recover amid the pandemic.

New guidance on COBRA premium subsidies

The American Rescue Plan entitles some people to a 100% premium subsidy for COBRA continuation coverage. The department issued new guidance and model notices implementing the plan’s COBRA premium assistance provisions.

New fidelity bonding grants

We’ve awarded $725,000 to help seven states and territories and D.C. expand their fidelity bonding programs, which help people who face barriers in their attempts to return to the workforce.

Labor relations guidance

We’re relaunching our Persuader Reporting Orientation Program to inform employers and labor relations consultants on potential labor-management reporting obligations, and give workers information on exercising their collective bargaining rights.

The department obtained a court order prohibiting two Connecticut restaurants and their owners from retaliating against employees after they allegedly coerced workers into kicking back thousands of dollars.

Willful hazard citations

OSHA fined a New Jersey roofing contractor $201,090 for willfully exposing employees to safety hazards at multiple worksites. One worker suffered serious injuries when a roof collapsed.
