Dear friend,

Solar panels, electric cars and wind farms are all well-known ways to address the climate crisis. But if we hope to secure a greener future, educating girls must be part of the solution.

That’s why on Earth Day, we’re teaming up with Girl Rising and the Malala Fund to share why girls’ education is one of the most powerful yet overlooked strategies in the fight against climate change. Read our joint piece.

Research shows that women and girls are disproportionately impacted by climate emergencies—and the Malala Fund estimates that by 2025, climate-related events will prevent at least 12.5 million girls from completing their education each year if current trends continue. But empowering girls can also help countries to build up their climate resilience. And girls themselves are leading the way.

Today, read about five girls who are taking action for climate justice in their communities around the world, from planting trees in Kenya to advocating for wildlife conservation in India. And then join us to support girls’ empowerment and education around the world through the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund—because the future of our world truly is as bright as our girls.
