Many Greek communities, both in the United States and worldwide, have lost countless people in the line of duty. Their stories need to be told and never forgotten. Annually, AHEPA’s Supreme President lays a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Also, the local chapters of AHEPA Capital District 3 invite brothers, sisters and friends from afar to participate in the laying of over 600 wreaths at all of the tombs in Arlington of Greek American soldiers.
Because of the current health crisis, the United States has been forced to cancel almost all annual commemorations which include ceremonies, wreath-laying and parades.
- My request this year is a call for all members of AHEPA worldwide to honor those who died in service to our nation and participate in an AHEPA Global Moment of Remembrance on Memorial Day, 3 p.m., your local time.
You can sound the call from your home, porch, or on your front lawn. We would advise against asking folks to gather in any type of group. Maybe you can tell your neighbors to open their windows.
