Barack helped me become the person I am today. He introduced me to some of his favorite artists and films. He helped me figure out where to go to college. We celebrated together at family gatherings and weddings—he even emceed mine—and we grieved together after shared losses.
On stage, we talked about how our childhood shaped our lives, about our remarkable mother and the values she instilled in us, and the inspiring young changemakers we’ve met here in Malaysia. Barack also took questions from our Asia-Pacific leaders, offering words of encouragement that I know they—and all of us—can take to heart.
“Rejoice in this opportunity to change the world,” he said. It’s a great privilege to be alive and have the possibility of helping somebody or making things a little bit better.”
I hope you’ll take a few moments to watch the conversation we had—tune in here.
