Hi there,

Our third Obama Foundation Summit just wrapped here in Chicago, and we are in awe of the conversations we witnessed.

From Michelle Obama and her brother Craig talking about their roots in Chicago and how the city defined the rest of their lives…

...to President Obama giving advice to young leaders on successfully creating change…
See All the Highlights

...to the stirring discussions between Ava DuVernay and Theaster Gates, Billy Porter and Lulu Wang, and Dolores Huerta and a young Chicago-based community leader named Oscar Sanchez...

Relive your favorite moments from the Summit on obama.org. It's your support that allows us to bring these visionary leaders together.

Hi there,

This morning, I had a remarkable conversation with my brother, Craig. Now Barack’s about to take the stage.

He’ll be speaking with Yara Shahidi, a gifted actor and passionate advocate—someone whose youth belies her wisdom.

Tune in now to watch them in a conversation with the Obama Foundation’s young leaders.

I’m so thrilled Yara was able to join us. You will be too.

Hope you’re able to tune in,

—Michelle

Hi there,

I’ve never won anything before in my life, but last week, my phone rang. I was one of the two people who won a trip to the Obama Foundation Summit! I still can’t believe it.

I just arrived in Chicago a few hours ago and have already gotten to meet a few of the other attendees from across the country and around the world.

Being back in Chicago is a homecoming for me. I was born at the former Michael Reese Hospital here on the South Side, and often found myself in Hyde Park—just a few blocks away from the future Obama Presidential Center—to visit my grandmother.

It’s been 40 years since I left. This city has changed a lot in those last forty years—this country has as well. As a first-generation American and a gay man who came out in the 1960s, I’ve seen firsthand what it means to be marginalized in a country that I love. Since then, I’ve committed my life to doing my part to create a more inclusive world in whatever ways that I can!

Being around leaders who are committed to doing the same means the world to me. Tomorrow, President and Mrs. Obama will take the stage to talk about how Chicago shaped their purpose and guided their leadership journey. I’ll be in the audience reflecting on how much this city influenced my own life, too.

I want to make sure everyone is able to witness these powerful conversations. If there's someone in your life who you think will enjoy the Summit, forward this message to a friend and ask them to sign up to the Obama Foundation's email list. We'll send them (and you) a reminder to watch the livestream before President and Mrs. Obama take the stage.

Take it from someone like me—these conversations will be a treat.
