Ohio's Governor, Lt. Governor Join AHEPA

AHEPA welcomes Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted as two of its newest members, announced Supreme President George G. Horiates. Supreme President Horiates thanked Past Supreme President Carl R. Hollister and District 11 Gov. Nick Regopoulos, who accompanied him to The Ohio Statehouse for the ceremony and a tour on Monday, Sept. 23. The rich tradition of public servants joining AHEPA continues, especially from the Buckeye State, where previous public servants such as U.S. Senators John Glenn and George Voinovich, were Ahepans.

Horiates concluded a week-long visitation to Ohio where he visited AHEPA chapters in: Warren, Youngstown, Toledo, and Columbus. In Columbus, he also met with Ahepans representing chapters in Dayton, Middletown, and Cincinnati. | View photo gallery

AHEPA Establishes Second Chapter in the UK
AHEPA welcomes its newest chapter in the United Kingdom, Lord Byron Chapter 615, Westminster, announced Supreme President George G. Horiates. District 28 Governor George Kritikos visited the chapter on Sept. 21 for the initiation of candidates into the Order. Under the leadership of Chapter President Yannis Amoutzas, the chapter membership totals 30 with the average age of the chapter's member being 29. Supreme President Horiates looks forward to visiting Chapter 615 as well as the United Kingdom's first AHEPA chapter, Apollon Chapter 602, London, before the end of the year.

Mitsotakis, Anastasiades in NYC for UN's 74th General Assembly

Prime Minister Mitsotakis of Greece and President Anastasiades of Cyprus are in New York for the proceeding of the 74th General Assembly of the United Nations from 23-27 of September and have important meetings with Secretary General Antonio Guterres and other leaders. Cyprus issue and the efforts to resume talks are topping their agenda.  read more

Greece to adopt national policy on climate change, PM tells UN

Greece intends to convene a high-level conference in Athens next year on the protection of cultural and natural heritage from climate change, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told the United Nations Climate Change Summit in New York on Monday.  read more

'Greece can be major force for Balkan stability,' says former US ambassador
Ekathimerini (Sept. 24)

The United States looks to Greece to "maintain stability" in the Eastern Mediterranean, former American ambassador to Greece Nicholas Burns tells Kathimerini in an interview. He adds that following the Prespes agreement, there are now no more obstacles blocking Greece from expanding its role in Southeastern Europe. At the same time, he notes that Turkey has become a "major headache" for Washington.  read more 

Ankara warns Nicosia over energy, reveals plans for Varosha

Just days ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and amid efforts to restart talks to reunite Cyprus, Ankara on Friday reiterated its determination to protect the rights of Turkish Cypriots on the ethnically split island.  read more

Turkey is now a haven for terrorists and an enabler of terrorism

On Monday, four children of an American and his Israeli wife killed by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in 2015 filed suit against Turkey's Kuveyt Turk Bank in a New York court. They charge that the bank helps Hamas finance its terrorist attacks, allegations the firm is almost certain to deny.  read more

Film about Greek Immigrant War Hero Steve Pisanos to Premiere at NHM
The National Herald (Sept. 19)

A short film featuring the life of Greek immigrant and World War II ace fighter pilot Steve Pisanos will premiere at the National Hellenic Museum on Thursday, October 3, at 6 PM. The premiere is open to the public.  read more

The Dish: Greek cuisine from chef Costas Spiliadis
CBS News (Sept. 21)

The man credited with introducing high-end food, wine and hospitality from the islands of Greece to North America, Costas Spiliadis, first arrived in the United States from Greece in 1966, carrying two suitcases - one filled with clothing, the other books and records. He settled in New York to study criminology ... but things rarely go according to plan.  read more
