Can reveal the destruction of individual trees: Norway to supply highly detailed satellite images of world's rainforests

Norway intends to spend up to USD 50 million USD to purchase high-resolution images of tropical forests. The images will be made freely available for governments, researchers and NGOs all over the world. They will enable the monitoring of deforestation, even on smaller areas. -Insights into changes in the rainforests is crucial for reducing tropical deforestation, says Minister of Climate and Environment Ola Elvestuen.

Norway to provide NOK 345 million for humanitarian mine clearance in 2019

Norway is maintaining a high level of support for humanitarian mine clearance in 2019, with an allocation of NOK 345 million. ‘It is difficult to say how many lives the Mine Ban Treaty has saved, but we know that each of the nearly 52 million stockpiled anti-personnel mines that have so far been destroyed as a result of the Treaty had the potential to maim or kill,’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Eriksen Søreide said.
