Ahepans Elect George Horiates Supreme President
The delegates of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (Order of AHEPA), the leading association for the nation's millions of American citizens of Greek heritage and Philhellenes, elected George G. Horiates, Esq., of Moorestown, N.J., Supreme President at the 97th Annual Supreme Convention, Chicago. Horiates, 52, ran unopposed in elections that were held July 5, 2019. AHEPA Congratulates Prime Minister Mitsotakis
Supreme President George G. Horiates sent a congratulatory letter to Greece's new prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, on his election victory. In the July 8 letter, Supreme President Horiates stated the AHEPA family looks forward to working with Prime Minister Mitsotakis to further enhance relations with Greece and the strong people-to-people ties that exist between Greece and its diaspora.

Underestimating Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been something of a national sport in Greece.  "Koulis," his detractors spit out, using a common diminutive of his first name that is usually reserved for children, as they mock a barely noticeable lisp.  read more

Golden Dawn, the far-right, anti-immigrant party that had shocked Greek politics by evolving from a marginal, violent neo-Nazi group into Greece's third-largest party during the country's economic crisis, was knocked out of Parliament in Sunday's national election.  read more

Voyage to the Center of the World

The peaks of Mount Parnassus shimmered on a warm spring afternoon above the temples of ancient Delphi. In a verdant valley below, silver-tipped olive trees stretched to the sea. In Poland, the Greek national team claimed gold at the 2019 Women's World Deaf Basketball Championship, defeating Lithuania 51-42 in the final to emerge victorious.  read more

Refugee women find relief in Greek soccer

Many of the players at Hestia FC weren't allowed to play - or even watch - soccer matches in their home countries. In Greece, they make up the country's first women's refugee team and hail from 14 countries including Syria, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Eritrea and Ethiopia. read more

Thanasis Antetokounmpo to sign two-year deal with Bucks

If it feels like everybody and their brother is signing with the Milwaukee Bucks this summer, it's because that's essentially what's happening.
The Bucks officially re-signed Brook Lopez on Saturday and will soon add his twin brother, Robin, in a signing that will soon be inked. Now, they're set to bring in another brother as Thanasis Antetokounmpo, the 26-year-old brother of Milwaukee's superstar and league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, will sign a guaranteed two-year, minimum contract, a source confirmed to the Journal Sentinel.  read more
