More Celebrations for Greek Independence Day
Celebrations continue for the 198th Anniversary of Greek Independence. Over the weekend, the AHEPA family participated at Philadelphia's parade organized by the Federation of Hellenic American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley, and at Boston's parade, organized by the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of New England. Supreme President George E. Loucas served as an Honorary Marshal at the Philadelphia parade.
AHEPA Helps Iowa, Nebraska Flood Victims
Ahepans from Chapter 534, Ralston, Nebraska, led efforts to provide relief to flood victims in Iowa and Nebraska.  The chapter coordinated relief efforts with the American Red Cross, International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), and local Orthodox parishes flood to raise more than $6,000.  The Ahepans, with the help of Lowe's, were able to purchase and provide the American Red Cross with seven pallets of supplies that provided an immediate need to the thousands of flood victims. Chapter 534 will continue to raise funds for additional supplies.

AHEPA Donates Equipment to Enclaved School
AHEPA Cyprus District 27 donated a state-of-the-art copy, print and scan machine to Rizokarpaso Elementary School in the occupied area of Cyprus to benefit the enclaved students. Ahepans made the presentation at a small ceremony held at the Cyprus Red Cross offices during a visit of the students and their teachers to the free area. China's Biggest Investment in Greece Blocked by Archaeological Authority
Wall Street Journal  (April 3)

One of China's biggest investments in Europe suffered a major setback after Greek bureaucrats declared much of a port a Chinese state-run company has bought into to be of archaeological interest, likely delaying a key Chinese infrastructure project.  The decision is the latest example of the power of Greece's much-feared archaeological authority, and is likely to increase longstanding Chinese frustrations about the progress of its projects in Greece.  read more

Greece is not just for Greeks - it belongs to the world
The Spectator (April 6)

It often proves difficult to talk about modern Greece. It's a history universally revered in its ancient glory, commonly ignored in its millennium-spanning Byzantine imperial expression and often maligned in its modern incarnation as a nation state.  read more
