Guten Tag!
In just a few minutes, I'll be taking the stage to kick off a town hall in Berlin with President Obama and over 300 emerging young leaders from across Europe. I couldn't be more honored. To be frank, it's completely surreal.
Tune in now to watch live as President Obama talks with emerging leaders in Europe about the future of the region and the importance of community engagement.
Part of what makes this moment so unique is that President Obama helped inspire young people from all backgrounds—including me—to believe that we have a role to play in shaping our future. As a refugee in Germany, I learned early on that representation matters. I would ask myself, how will our voices be heard?
Then I realized: politics is something that we all own. It's for everyone. And that sometimes, you have to bring a seat to the table and be the first to do so—like President Obama.
That's why I decided to run for office, and at 24, I was elected as the youngest and first black member of Parliament in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
I'm not alone. Throughout Europe, there is a generation of young people like me who care deeply about our shared future. We're addressing issues like inequality and climate change and harnessing innovation to advance economic opportunity for all. We're not waiting for change; we're making it happen today.
That's why we're gathered here in Berlin today: to discuss the future of Europe and to hear from someone who has encouraged people on both sides of the Atlantic to chart their own course. I can't wait to start the conversation.
Join us live now as we take the stage in Berlin.
