The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the following changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service:
Marie Lemay, currently Deputy Minister of Public Services and Procurement, becomes Senior Advisor to the Privy Council Office, effective January 28, 2019, prior to an upcoming appointment.
Bill Matthews, currently Senior Associate Deputy Minister of National Defence, becomes Deputy Minister of Public Services and Procurement, effective January 28, 2019.
Claude Rochette, currently Assistant Deputy Minister of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of National Defence, becomes Associate Deputy Minister of National Defence, effective January 28, 2019.

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, spoke with President Sauli Niinistö of Finland.
Prime Minister Trudeau and President Niinistö discussed bilateral priorities including implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), and highlighted the opportunities it creates on both sides of the Atlantic for jobs and economic growth. The Prime Minister conveyed thanks for Finland’s steadfast support for and early ratification of CETA.
The Prime Minister and the President discussed the arbitrary detention of two Canadian citizens in China and the importance of respecting the rule of law, international norms, and judicial independence. The Prime Minister welcomed the European Union’s clear statements calling for the release of the Canadians.
Prime Minster Trudeau congratulated President Niinistö on Finland’s gold medal at the World Junior Hockey Championships on January 5 in Vancouver as well as the success of Finnish players in the National Hockey League.
