"Invite 1" Membership Campaign Underway
As our end-year membership deadline looms, Supreme President George E. Loucas calls on Ahepans to "Invite 1" to join the Order.

AHEPA to Participate at International Conference on Eastern Mediterranean 
Supreme President George E. Loucas will provide a welcome address, and Executive Director Basil Mossaidis will be a panelist, at an international conference titled, "New Realities in the Eastern Mediterranean" to be held at the Konrad Adenauer Conference Center, Mishkenot Shaananim, Jerusalem, December 11, 2018. The conference is sponsored by The Jerusalem Institute for Strategic Studies (JISS) and B'nai B'rith International (BBI) and held in cooperation with AHEPA and the American Hellenic Institute (AHI). Executive Director Mossaidis will speak on the topic, "Promoting Mediterranean Awareness in the U.S."

"Developments in the Eastern Mediterranean amid the growing alliance between Greece, Cyprus and Israel across many sectors, have elevated the region's geopolitical importance," Loucas said. "We are proud to support and participate at such a significant international conference to examine these developments and sincerely thank its organizers, JISS and B'nai B'rith International."

George Sarelakos emerges from the sea lugging a giant tire. Another two divers surface - with a shopping cart and a netted bag bulging with a cassette player, cans and lots of plastic.  It takes six more people to heave this all onto the main pier of the Greek island of Poros.  "People throw everything down there that they throw away at home," says Sarelakos, a 39-year-old management consultant.   read more 
 
Cyprus to appoint military attache in Washington

The Cypriot Cabinet decided on Wednesday to appoint a military attaché in Washington to enhance the blossoming Cyprus-US ties.  According to Deputy Government Spokeswoman Klelia Vasiliou, the decision is part of an effort to strengthen bilateral ties between Cyprus and the United States and to engage in a balanced defence diplomacy.  read more 
  
Connecticut Shoemaker Continues for Decades in Rare Trade

Chris Kydes leads a simple life - he wakes up at 4 or 5 a.m., watches the morning news and makes his way over to a small roadside workshop.  Inside his tightly-spaced store, the unmistakable scent of leather all but oozes from dozens of shoes, whose different shades of black and brown compliment one another on wood shelves.  Being a shoemaker was not always what Kydes had in mind; in fact, it took years - and two different careers - for him to finally end up in the trade.  read more
